Consultation with the ophthalmologist

After the consultation:

Infant / Child
A screening examination is carried out by the pediatrician during consultations (In the first 8 days of life, Assessment at pre-verbal age between the 9th and 15th month, Assessment at verbal age between 2 and 3 years) and specialist ophthalmic consultation will be requested in the event of warning signs. Note that refractive errors detected before 4 years of age have every chance of being completely corrected.
Child / Adolescent
An ophthalmological consultation is recommended at the age of 5-6 years before entering CP and learning to read. If glasses are worn, a consultation every year is required. Otherwise, the following warning signs should be consulted: loss of visual acuity or discomfort from a distance or near, headache, migraines, asthenopia or visual fatigue, excessive squinting of the eyes, etc.
Adulthood
A consultation is recommended every 2 to 5 years. From the age of 40, screening for glaucoma with intraocular pressure measurement is recommended every 2 years. From the age of 65, a check of visual acuity and fundus is recommended every 18 months.
In case of Diabetes
An annual control of the OF after dilation is necessary from the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and after 5 years of evolution of type 1 diabetes.
In case of Glaucoma
In the event of glaucoma, quarterly monitoring of eye tone and visual field is necessary for the first 2 years. Then, a six-monthly follow-up with regular monitoring of the RNFL OCT will be continued.
In case of AMD
The atrophic (or dry) form requires a six-monthly control of the OF and macular OCT and then annually thereafter. Self-monitoring by Amsler grid and vitamin therapy are also recommended. The exudative (or wet) form requires strict monthly monitoring for the 1st year following the diagnosis, then the frequency of monitoring will be adapted to your case.
